1969 : Alpine Renault A 220 (nº30)


The Alpine A220 chassis number 1734 retained its number and orange livery from the 1968 24 Hours of Le Mans . It was converted to its 1969 configuration and entrusted to the French duo Henry Grandsire and Jean-Claude Andruet. It qualified in 21st position with a time of 3'54"8, no better than the previous year. It was the lowest-qualified of the four A220s.




Initially 17th in the first two hours behind car number 28, she was the first to experience engine trouble (overheating), dropping beyond 30th place by the third hour. Water refueling proved ineffective.

At 6 p.m., after four hours of racing, the engine finally gave up the ghost in a plume of blue smoke. This also marked the end of Henry Grandsire's career, as he did not seek another drive after the Le Mans program was discontinued. (text slotLemans)
